- Do I need to speak Spanish to join the program? No prior Spanish knowledge is required. However, Spanish classes are mandatory for all participants as part of cultural immersion and to support communication outside the classroom.
- Is Spanish language learning mandatory? Yes, 20 hours/week, tailored to your level, for full immersion.)
- Why do I have to pay a fee to participate in the Spanish program? To ensure our operational integrity and the sustainability of our projects, we rely on the contributions from our volunteer program. The program fee, which includes your professional Spanish lessons, is essential. It allows us to pay fair salaries to our university-level teachers and cover the core administrative costs necessary to coordinate our educational initiatives effectively. In essence, your contribution directly enables our existence and empowers us to continue making a meaningful impact in the Buenos Aires community.
- Do I need prior teaching experience or a TEFL certificate? No, native English speakers with no prior experience are welcome. Our program offers practical application and optional online or on-site certification. Please contact us if you would be interested.
- What kind of community involvement is expected? Volunteer English teaching (15 hours/week) in local settings, fostering cultural exchange and making a direct impact.
- What's included in the program fee? Shared accommodation among 2 or 3 same gender people at Palacio Piedras, Spanish classes, teaching placement, and ongoing support.
- What is included in the free accommodation? Volunteers receive shared housing with basic amenities like a bed, Wi-Fi, kitchen access, own key, and bathroom facilities.
- Can I get a free of cost accommodation if I want to participate in the program with my couple? No, if you want to participate and receive a free of cost shared accommodation it has to be a shared room with other same gender people. Private double rooms have a cost.
- Are meals included? Meals are not included. Volunteers will have access to kitchen facilities to cook their own food. Please do not cook when there are classes to prevent disturbances.
- Will I have time to travel or explore? Yes, volunteers generally have weekends off and free time during the week, allowing for local travel, excursions, or personal time.
- How is the program funded? We are not externally funded. Therefore, we depend on the contribution from the professional Spanish course you will take with university instructors here in Buenos Aires. These contributions help cover the instructors' teaching salaries and a very small coordination fee for the work done with our partner English schools.
- Can I participate if I am an advanced Spanish learner? Of course you can, but you would still need to take at least 10 hours per week of Spanish classes here.
- Why does this volunteering opportunity cost money? I want everything for free. As explained, we are not externally funded. The program fees cover essential costs like instructor salaries, coordination work, and accommodation. This structure allows us to provide a high-quality, sustainable program while ensuring a fair wage for the professionals involved.
- Can I get a private room? Yes, but there are associated costs with that option. This opportunity just offers shared accommodation among 2 or 3 same gender people in spacious rooms as the standard option.
- Can I participate if I'm old? Age is not an impediment. We welcome volunteers of all ages.
- Can I participate if I am transgender or non-binary? We accept all volunteers with a strong passion to teach. Our program is inclusive and we welcome people of all gender identities.
